street is looking for your very best poetry, prose, essays, graphic narratives, scripts, and other written submissions. Not sure if what you’ve written fits a category we might publish? Take a chance! We’re eager to expand the horizons of our magazine and to celebrate the very best work by writers in our high school.

 

Because street is the literary magazine of Lusher Charter High School’s certificate of artistry program in Creative Writing, its editors hold to high professional standards, starting with what we expect in the submissions we receive. To ensure that your work is read with the care that it deserves, please follow the following guidelines:

 

Formatting

1. Proofread your work. Please only submit work that is free of mechanical and grammatical errors. It should be as close to print-ready as possible.

 

    2. Prose (stories, essays, etc.—anything written in paragraphs), must be double-spaced. Poetry must be single-spaced. Scripts should be formatted according to the professional standards of film or theater; please ask a teacher in one of those departments or the librarian if you need help with this.

 

    3. If your submission is longer than one page, please include page numbers.

 

Submission

1. Create a Google document for each of your submissions. For example, if you are submitting three poems and a short story, you will create a Google document for each poem and one for the story. The document name (upper left corner of tool bar, says “Untitled document” until you name it) should appear as follows: your last name-title-genre. For example, if I were submitting a poem called “Sweet Olive,” that document name would be Richard-”Sweet Olive”-poetry.

 

    2. On the document itself, place your name in the upper left corner; skip two spaces, then type the title; skip one space and begin the text of your piece. Poetry titles should be placed flush with the left hand margin; titles of prose pieces should be centered above the opening paragraph.

 

    3. Once your submissions are complete, share each of them with street@lusherschool.org. Make sure to check the “send” email notification box when sharing your work on Google Documents.
