Butterflies

by Vinnie Liu

Their wings flutter around, making a sweet, subtle breeze.
They huddle around in a mass, sickly sipping the day’s rations.
As they fill up, their proboscises become smothered.
Multitudes of antennae twinkle with the taste of nutrition.
A ferrous scent cascades through the air
as more of these creatures swarm.
Their bodies convey a multitude of shades of red,
Similar to the nectar which they consume.
Each of them vary with a new hue,
As their slow descend creates a beautiful crimson
embrace for their victim to wear.
